South Nyack, NY - Tappan Zee Bridge Falsework

Summit Metal Fabricators was awarded a contract to provide the fabricated structural steel falsework for the dismantling of the old Tappan Zee Bridge. The general contractor, Tappan Zee Bridge Constructors, is removing the bridge in large sections with jacking strands to a barge. The smaller anchor spans will be lowered to a barge with a huge, ship mounted crane, called the Left Coast Lifter.  The falsework is supporting the bridge sections as they are lowered to the waiting barges where they will be sent down river for dry land dismantling and recycling. The project started in August 2017 and the dismantling of the old bridge is continuing in 2018.
